EAGLEWING TAKEDOWN LONGBOW

If you want a truly high end custom carbon hunting bow this is it!! This is a unique bow that will never , ever be duplicated. That is how I build them. One at a time and each an individual work of art.
Here's  how it specs out. It is 64 in  right hand, 64 lbs @28in. High Reflex Deflex bow. The limbs are clear glass ULS with fine flame maple veneers and katalox wedges. The tips are fast flight ready with micarta phenolic linin overlays topped with fancy katalox top overlay with phenolic stripes.  The limb is a combination of carbon and action  boo taper for the core. It is designed as an extremely high performance limb and is not only tapered but is belly trapped from the fades to the tips. I have noit chorongrpahed this bow but it should be about as fast as a longbow gets with this design and with trapped limbs and carbon. This bow is tillered so that it can be shot either three under or split finger.

The riser of this bow is sandwiched construction with an english walnut I beam which shows in the sight window which is cut 3/16 past center for perfect centershot. The riser is made of Yew, english walnut, katalox and purple heart   There is a moasaic beauty stripe breaking the riser at a gentle curve horizontaslly. This riser is designed to be super strong. Not for ease of making but to be a riser that will last and look beautiful. There is a double pin limb alignment for postive limb placement every time the bow is assembled.   All of these things which most bowyers consider to be minute add up to a superior bow when incorporated. Why they do not build a bow like this is because instead of one layup on a riser I have up to seven and sometimes eight. Instead of turning out multiple risers a day I spend up to a week on each one. You need to be able to appreciate workmanship and effort if you buy this bow because it is special. Even the finish is a hand applied , fine gunstock , hand rubbed oil gunstock finish. It looks like a fine piece of furniture . This also protects the wood and makes the bow last longer. It is also a job that requires me to spend three days to a week to accomplish. That is instead of 20 minutes in a spray booth. I do not do this because I do not have the spray setup. I do have it. I do it because I want to be the best custom bow builder in the world. I work at that. Whether or not I am you have to decide. All I know is that I do not cut one single corner anywhere in building a bow. It is all one at a time in the old craftsman fashion. This bow is the result of the gift of God and my application of that gift to the best of my ability. I continually see places where I could cut a corner and no one but me would know it. I say no and take the time to do it right.  That is what you are looking at when you look at these bows.
These bows are truly a work of art and the design is as efficient as a bow can get making the limb literally a full recuve which uses the complete limb as a recurve from the fades to the tips instead of recurving the tips as a recurve does. The best of technology and workmanship have gone into making this bow.

This bow has all of the benefits of a longbow as the string does not hit the limbs but it has the awsome speed, power and smooth draw of a recurve. Add carbon construction and an action boo taper and this is a sizzler. This is a Jaguar of bows. It is classy, slick, smooth and extremely fast. It not only looks fast but is fast.

This bow is a three piece takedown so when you take that dream trip you can pack it right in the suitcase.

In this bow the working area of the limb is the entire limb so it should be an heirloom item. The dispersion of work load keeps one area from wearing out from overstress. This is not only a fast design but I have done things to make it etremely smooth drawing with an even power curve. If you are looking for a great big game bow this one will do the trick. Its all the bow needed for any size game on the North American Continent and for most African Game.

I design this bow to be shot with a low brace height of 6 and 3/4 in so that the arrrow stays on the string a full inch longer than some bows and and inch and a half longer than most bows. This longer stroke means the bow efficiency is extra-ordinarily high placing a larger portion of its power into the arrow instead of being lost in vibration and shock. Its kind of like adding an inch to your draw length.

Another design feature that enhances the performance of this bow is the Physical limb weight . This limb is physically lighter by a fairly large amount than limbs without carbon as carbon replaces more than twice its thickness or own weight in poundage added. This means that the limb moves foreward faster because the poundage is moving less weight, I realize that some of you already understand this but I am explaining it for those that do not understand why carbon is such a big deal. It helps in several ways,. Carbon returns to its original state faster than any other man made material. This literally kills limb vibration. Its almost like having limbsavers on the limbs. The power of the limb is not lost on vibration which is shock but that power goes into the arrow.

This bow is built of the very best of modern materials. Gordon's bowtuff glass with scrim is the very best glass available. It has fiberglass laid at a 90 detgree angle to the limb which keeps linial cracks from developing as easily as will with bows built of linial glass. Its not used except in extreme custom bows simply because it cost the builder more and the bow owner won't know the difference until little cracks develope in his or her bow. Second I only use the best core material, Action Boo which is the stiffest, lightest, strongest core available. third I laminate a very thin exotic veneer under the glass and right under that is the carbon layer.

My concept is to do everything I do as unto Christ and that includes bow building. Not a single corner is cut in materials, workmanship or time to do the job to the best of my ability. I do not say this to brag I say it to communicate what my work ethic is and where it comes from.

This bow is heirloom quality. I personally grind and mic the veneer laminations out of the very finest instrument grade hardwoods. In the case of this bow the veneers are a gorgeous flame maple which I purchased over 30 years ago. This thin veneer goes under the glass on the back and belly of the bow and is what you see. It is gorgeous. Next comes a layer of carbon. Another feature used by few bowyers because of the care and knowledge required to use it plus it is extremely expensive to only add 5 to 10 fps to the speed of the bow. Those are the reasons given. However it does much more than just add speed it adds stability to the limb and makes a more accurate bow killing vibration which is commonly felt as hand shock. The combination of limb design, bamboo core and carbon makes this bow as smooth a pulling bow as it is possible to build. I will not say my bow is the smoothest and fastest bow built but I will say that bows that are equal are built the same way or with the same concepts.

Next is the true core material which is the very best for many reasons. I use only actionboo bamboo core and tapers in my bows. This makes an incredibly fast and smooth shooting bow even without the carbon but when combined with carbon is simply amazing. It is the lightest strongest bow limb material available. It really is a grass so the fiber structure is extremely long and strong. It is incredibly  stiff and is called natures carbon. So I end up with a beautiful bow that not only looks awsome but performs even better than it looks.

Using these materials allows me to build a very light weight , very stiff limb. It springs foreward faster than a heavy limb of the same pull weight. This is what makes a bow fast compared to other bows. Now to a bowhunter speed is not the consideration but energy is. This bow will give a heavy hunting arrow more energy out of a lighter pull weight than most bows. A 45 lb pull weitght bow like this will actually shoot an arrow harder and faster than most bows that are 10 lbs heavier in pull weight.

Few people want an ugly automobile or truck and few people want an ugly bow. This bow has every feature to make it just the most beautiful work of art you can lay eyes on. In fact if it was a picture you would frame it and hang it on the wall. I make each one of these bows one at a time and do not care how long it takes to make it. There are no corners cut in materials or in workmanship I believe that the pictures will speak for themselves. The riser is built for tremendous strength and beauty out of premium instrument grade hardwoods.

I have as much money in the woods alone in some of these bows as other builders have in the whole bow. Each riser requires careful sand fitting and multiple glueups which means I will spend from three days to a week on the riser layup alone. This is not finished or even sanded but is laying in custom beauty stripes, shaping and designing for strength. Each takedown will have Multiple feature stripes plus 1/8 in linin phenolic across the whole riser on which the limbs rest. Again a custom feature that adds tremendous strength to the riser plus stability against any future warpage or limb twist. While talking about the woods I will add that some of the woods have natural knots and small drying checks that are just a part of being wood. These will show more on the lighter colored woods but are in all woods. I stabilize these before I finish any riser when they are visible to the eye. I will not use any wood that I deem to be detrimental to the performance or longevity of the bow at all.

While talking about Phenolic I use it in abundance even though it is extremely expensive. The overlays are phenolic and Wood. The tips are overlaid with at least one and sometimes multiple layers of phenolic. This is not only for beauty but makes the bow fast flight ready. Finally comes the finish on these bows. At this time I hand sand and hand finish each bow. First it is sealed with a premium clear sealer and then carefully finished with a high gloss oil finish. This is not a spray can finish but is the same finish I use on custom rifle stocks. It requires hours and hours of sanding and recoating until the wood looks like a piece of glass and three miles deep. With this type finish you can actually see into the wood which brings out the great beauty God placed within it.

Details of bow, 64inch, 64 lb at 28 in, fastflight, carbon, actionboo limb with Phenolic overlays, riser window cut 3/16in. past center for true centershot, Riser, double radiused for fletch clearance, medium recurve grip, Yew, english walnut, purpleheart and katalox Riser with with yew and maple overlays It is outstanding and unique. No one else will ever own a bow like this and it will be the first bow anyone looks at on your rack.

I've given you the thousand words, now look at the pics. I believe the care to detail reflects what this bow is all about. Simply the best. God Bless and good hunting, Steve.
